|Live Review| Josh Kumra at The Social

So on Tuesday Night I headed down to Little Portland Street to one of my favourite intimate venues ‘The Social’ to check out upcoming singer songwriter ‘Josh Kumra’ who has already taken the charts by storm with Wretch 32 on his #1 single ‘Don’t Go’. I was intrigued to see how he would do commanding a stage by himself and with this being my first time seeing Josh I was more than happy with the result.

After checking out the ‘Huw Stephens’ picked SO MANY WIZARDS with there kind of alternative rock vibe that kept the crowd tided over nicely in preparation for the headline act you could see this was going to be an intimate affair. With people getting drinks, slow dancing at the front and humming along to the riffs it was definately a music filled environment. It was nice to see some Indie music, I feel like I havn’t been to a rock show in a while.

Then out came the main man who subtly stepped on a stage, acoustic guitar slung over his shoulder and a drummer ready to go. No fuss, not big hyped up entrance just the perfect amount of anticipation and a crowd that was ready to listen. Performing new tracks from the off Kumra kept the crowd waiting on his every word, his voice tingling through the small venues walls and covering the relatively adorning audience with joy.

Awe stricken I moved closer to the front eager to see the star in the making, it probably wont be long before you wont get as close to this guy, with his Sony Deal and fledging status in the industry you could tell the crowd appreciate the intimacy offered by Kumra, who looked directly into peoples eye’s in a kind of shy way you would associate with a little kid. He managed to seem to vulnerable yet belt out the smoothest of vocals I’m yet to hear, some would compare with Ed Sheeran (lazy comparison) but I think he’s much more suited to a soul singer, a laid back White Bill Withers type of soul, not to say anyone equals the famous Bill but the soul in Kumra’s voice was well suited to the chilled environment.

Finishing with crowd favourite Don’t Go with Josh Kumra verses and a touch of added class it was clear this boy has a future, I look  forward to being able to say I saw him early.
