‘Diamonds’ is one of those songs that when you first listen to it you aren’t that keen on it, but when you wake up the next day and press play it sounds like your new addiction. Rihanna has hit the goldmine with ‘Diamonds,’ because it has so many different elements to it that will help her attract a new kind f audience. The layering and building of the instruments, and the change in her vocals has a beautifully epic build to the ethereal chorus.
When you finally start accustoming yourself to Rihanna’s new sound, the beginning of the track initially makes you think of Lana Del Rey. The way she sings ‘Shine bright like a diamond,’ is very Lana Del Rey, but after a while you just start to accept that this is the new Rihanna … for now. The one thing that sets Rihanna apart from a lot of other performers, and I emphasize performers is that her image grows. She never stays the same, which for us as an audience makes her that much more exciting, because she keeps us on our toes. The 23 year old constantly changes and adapts her sound, according to her mood, or life experiences at the time. We can all agree that Rihanna isn’t the most talented singer in the music industry, but she sure as hell knows how to put on one hell of a show. She is the ideal music product that we all buy into, because her personality is so Badass.
