Psy Is An Introduction To What The Music Industry Has Become

I apologize in advance for forgetting to introduce you to the extraordinarily talented Psy. He is a 34 year old singer/ songwriter from South Korea, and is currently becoming more and more famous after the release of his dance song ‘Gangnam Style’. Normally I would be one to ignore something this foolish, but I must admit the beat is insanely good. Even though the majority of us have no idea what he is saying, the guy knows how to make a hit, that has you feeling ashamed to sing it out loud, but you sure as hell will sing it in private.

The song as a whole isn’t remotely good in anyway, but you have to give the guy some credit, because he has achieved more or less everything he wanted by releasing it.  The song is about Gangnam, which is known as the most upmarket neighborhood in South Korea, its streets are lined with designer brands, trendy bars and restaurants. Psy’s motto is to dress classy and dance cheesy, which has worked out very well for him the US. It’s no surprise that Island Records offered him a deal which he happily signed, due to his terribly addictive song becoming a hit in the US. This is the perfect example of how money driven the music industry has become, to the point where they sign someone as talentless as Psy whose real name is Park Jai-Sang.

Music used to be a tool for people to express their deepest thoughts and emotions. It was a place for those who were truly passionate, but now it’s just about money and who can get the most views. A truly powerful song stays with you forever, but songs like ‘Gangnam Style,’ only stay with you for a short time because they made no real impact on your life.

I’m really interested to hear what people think of this guy getting signed, over so many real talented people, and do you think it was the horse dance that gave him the advantage?

Talentless?  Have you even listened to Psy’s albums and tracks like “It’s Art” and “Right Now”?  We can argue the merits of “Gangnam Style,” but he has songs that will stick with you.  Also, unlike many in the pop industry, particularly Kpop, he writes his own songs and does his own choreography.  We should all wish we were this “talentless.”
