Bow Wow released a music video for one of his new songs ‘We In Da Club,’ last month, which seems to have gone unnoticed by the public. For someone of such a high caliber, Bow Wow is ghosting through the European charts, while cruising through the US charts. The video was released on August 3rd, and still hasn’t hit the million-man mark that most artists of his stature would reach on the first day. The 25 year old has improved immensely since the auto-tune abomination he released in late February ‘Sweat’. How that song has over 5 million views, and a large majority of likes proves that Hip Hop has lost its authenticity.
When Bow Wow returned with ‘Better,’ you would genuinely think he was heading in a more truthful direction that lots of people who are struggling could relate to. However just like any other short-lived miracle, once you return to mainstream the same rules apply. Talk money, clothes, cars, “bitches” and alcohol. ‘We In Da Club’ follows the same elements of Tyga’s ‘Rack City,’ and Drakes ‘The Motto’. I’m normally not one to sit and make comparisons between artists, because at the end of the day they are all individuals. On the other hand it’s obvious that Bow Wow followed the same strategy of finding a nice strong beat that makes the lyrics seem like a nice addition to a finished conquest.
The lyrics are not inspiring in anyway, it’s simple everyday bragging with no clever word play what-so-ever. However we must commend Bow Wow as a rapper, for being tenacious in his music career especially when there are so many new rappers trying to do the same thing. Staying relevant is one of the hardest things an artist has to go through, so it’s impressive to see him constantly bouncing back.
