With the groundbreaking release of Wale’s Ambition album, London long awaited his return to the county; his London performances spread over two nights, the first at Scala and the second being at popular venue XOYO.
To get the crowd going, UK artist Smiler (@smilermusic) opened the show, along with guests such as Bigz performing popular tracks like “Raise ‘Em Up” from his upcoming mixtape “All I Know”, it’s always great to see UK artists getting their chance to shine!
After Smilers brilliant performance, DJ 59 for Wale started the party spinning hip hop classics from Jay Z, Notorious B.I.G and Wiz Khalifa and soon after Wale started his set with his verse from the MMG single from the Self Made Vol.1 album “600 Benz” and of course the crowd went crazy. He followed with tracks from his previous album “Attention Deficit”: “Pretty Girls”, “90210” and “Chillin’”. For all the songs which featured a singer, he was accompanied by an artist named Tre, his excellent voice captivated us through songs songs like “Lotus Flower Bomb” “Sabotage” and “That Way” from the Ambition album.
The thing I enjoyed most about the concert was the crowd participation from Wale himself; I would say he spent around 50% of the concert somewhere in the crowd! Obviously he had the ladies at the front in awe rapping “Lotus Flower Bomb” to them, and letting them sing the chorus on the mic.
He stopped half way through the show to let everyone know sincerely how much he appreciated the fans and didn’t want them to feel that it was just a concert, he wanted to make it a party experience for everyone and he wanted to “touch the London people”; following this, the lights were turned off, and Wale took to walking through the crowd with a spotlight on him. The rush was incredible everyone was running to him; touch him or take a picture with the man while he calmly chilled listening to fellow MMG member’s tracks “Im A Boss” and “Stay Schemin”. Wale then picked out a huge fan from the front of the crowd who stayed on stage with him for the whole concert!
Wale also performed songs from previous mixtapes like “More about Nothing” with “The Break Up” song, and from his latest mixtape “The Eleven One Eleven Theory” “Lets Chill” and my favourite part, his feature from “No Hands” by Wacka Flocka Flame from his debut album “Flockaveli”, which also features Roscoe Dash, and finished off with his freestyle over Wiz Khalifa’s “Black and Yellow” and his feature verse from Tyga’s “Rack City Remix” as he realised he was running out of time.
Wale’s attention and appreciation of the crowd made the whole experience the best concert I have ever attended, there was slight disappointment where he didn’t perform songs we had expected like “Miami Nights” “Ambition” and “Illest B*tch”, which he made up for performing on the following night at XOYO, which I definitely would of attended for Round 2 if it wasn’t sold out!
Wale we at theBluMile really hope you come back soon!
