KONY 2012 is a film and campaign by Invisible Children that aims to make Joseph Kony famous, not to celebrate him, but to raise support for his arrest and set a precedent for international justice.
Invisible Children is a youth movement working to empower and educate students in the area of international social justice. The group works to create high-quality documentary films that highlight the way students from across North America are making the world a better place.
The film Kony 2012 is part of the group’s efforts to end the reign of Joseph Kony, a Ugandan guerrilla group leader, who is the head of the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA). The LRA has earned a reputation for its actions against the people of several countries, including northern Uganda, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Sudan. Moreover, it has abducted and forced an estimated 66,000 children to fight for them.
